"What's your deal with Ghosts 'n Goblins?"
So, it's probably obvious I enjoy this series a lot more than the average Joe.
In each confusingly-named entry of the series, demons capture the princess of the kingdom and it's up to the brave knight Sir Arthur to save her.
What follows is a harrowing quest through a series of grotesque environments, including a flooded shipwreck, a monster's innards, and a burning village splattered with flesh-dissolving blue slime.
Unlike many other platforming heroes, Arthur charges through his quest entirely by himself. There is no Luigi, Tails, nor Dr. Light; and certainly none of Kirby's animal friends. Arthur doesn't boast incredible speed or agility, and is so frail he'll be reduced to a pile of bones in two hits.
Though he can use a variety of magic powers in the right circumstances, Sir Arthur's main power is undoubtedly his SHEER FORCE OF WILL.
